Last updated: September 25, 2026
Everything currently known about the Grand Theft Auto VI map — the confirmed regions of Leonida, what’s been spotted in trailers and screenshots, and what’s still only rumor from the August 2026 leak. Rockstar hasn’t published an official full map yet, so this page separates what the developer has actually confirmed from what the community has pieced together, and we’ll keep it updated as more is revealed.

Quick Overview
- Setting: the fictional state of Leonida, Rockstar’s take on modern-day Florida.
- Main city: Vice City, the series’ long-running stand-in for Miami.
- Size: reported to be roughly 70% larger than the GTA 5 map, spanning at least six counties.
- Confirmed counties: Vice-Dale, Leonard, Ambrosia, Kelly and Mariana have all been named directly by Rockstar; a sixth, Lummox, has only shown up in the leaked map and community reconstructions.
- Big landmarks: a large central lake (Lake Leonida), the Grassrivers (an Everglades stand-in), the Leonida Keys, an international airport, a military base, a zoo, and a working train and metro system.
- Interiors: reports point to 700+ enterable buildings — bars, clubs, hotels, restaurants, pawn shops, gun stores and more.
- Wildlife: alligators, boars, birds, bobcats, snakes and other animals are reportedly tracked in-game, plus underwater areas with their own ecosystems and hidden collectibles.
The Leaked Map
A map said to be from an internal Rockstar development build surfaced online on August 18, 2026, alongside gameplay footage the developer moved quickly to get taken down — which is generally taken as a sign the leak was genuine, if outdated. Because the source material is leaked and copyrighted, this article doesn’t reproduce the original image; the wider mapping community has since published its own redrawn version based on confirmed trailer landmarks, which is a better reference than the leak itself. Treat any leak-based map as a snapshot of an older build rather than a guarantee of what ships at launch — borders, names and even entire areas can still change before release.
Vice-Dale County (South East)
Home to Vice City itself and modeled on Miami-Dade County. This is the area shown most in trailers so far.
- Vice City (county seat)
- Vice Beach
- Hamlet
- Belville
- Catalan Key
- Crosstown
- Dalton Island
- Ekanfinaka
- Gloriana Key (based on Virginia Key)
- Leaf Links
- Little Haiti
- Little Havana
- Ocean Beach
- Rockridge
- South Beach
- Stockyard (a Wynwood-style arts district)
- Tequesta Retreat
- Venetian Islands
- Vice City International Airport
- Vice City Port
- Washington Beach
Leonard County (North East)
Little is confirmed here beyond its existence, spotted via in-game road signage. It’s presumed to be based on Broward County.
- Waning Sands — likely inspired by the Aventura/Pembroke Pines area
Ambrosia County (Middle)
A more rural, industry-driven county thought to be based on Hendry County — sugar refining and old-money local politics rather than city glamour.
- Ambrosia (town)
- Lake Leonida — the large lake that anchors the center of the map
Kelly County (North West)
Likely drawing on Collier and Lee counties, this region reads as Leonida’s faded coastline — worn-down motels and closed attractions rather than tourist glitz.
- Port Gellhorn — the county’s main town, styled after Panama City
Mariana County (South West)
Likely based on Monroe County, this covers the wetlands and island chain to the southwest.
- Grassrivers — a stand-in for the Everglades
- Leonida Keys — a stand-in for the Florida Keys
- Key Lento (based on Key Largo)
- Watson Bay (based on Cedar Key)
- Capri (based on Sebring)
Protagonists Jason and Lucia’s starting apartment, shown in the second trailer, is reportedly located in the Leonida Keys area of this county.
Lummox County (North)
Unlike the other five, Lummox hasn’t been named directly by Rockstar — it only appears in the leaked map and is treated as unconfirmed until Rockstar says otherwise. It’s presumed to draw on North Florida and southern Georgia geography.
- Mount Kalaga National Park — rugged forest, canyon and river terrain, reportedly supporting fishing, kayaking, hunting and off-road driving, with wildlife like deer, cougars and foxes; its canyon section is said to resemble Georgia’s real-life Providence Canyon
- Yorktown (north-west)
Is There a Second State — Gloriana?
Vehicle license plates shown in trailers and promotional art reference a state called “Gloriana,” which sparked speculation about a second playable state north of Leonida. Since the map leak, that theory looks unlikely: Gloriana appears only to be referenced on license plates rather than existing as a physical, explorable region. The name is now generally believed to nod to Virginia — matching “Gloriana Key,” itself based on the real Virginia Key — rather than to Georgia as first guessed. Liberty City has also come up repeatedly in Rockstar’s promotional material, including as the hometown of protagonist Lucia, though there’s no indication it’s a visitable area in this game.
GTA 6 Map Size vs GTA 5
Fan comparisons overlaying the leaked Leonida map on the GTA 5 map put GTA 6 at roughly 70% larger than its predecessor — consistent with Rockstar’s own framing of this as its biggest and most ambitious world yet. Take any precise percentage with some caution until Rockstar confirms final map dimensions, since a leak sourced from an older build may not reflect the finished game’s scale.
Will the Map Grow After Launch?
GTA 6 was originally planned under the “Project Americas” codename with an even larger scope spanning multiple real-world regions; that ambition was scaled back to focus on Leonida with deeper, more detailed interiors instead. Rockstar has said it intends to keep adding new areas and missions after launch rather than shipping the entire world on day one — a shift reportedly tied to changing how the studio manages crunch and long-term production, more than a marketing decision. Whether that means live-service-style seasonal map changes, à la Fortnite, is speculation at this point rather than anything Rockstar has confirmed, and it’s worth watching how players react given the franchise’s single-player-first reputation.
